Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, while Vince is related to Anthuriums like Felicity, Fleur and Liv, he is a very different species and requires different care. This striking plant has large velvety textured leaves with deep veining. It’s a rare and sought after addition to any houseplant collection but is best suited to those who are already proficient plant parents.
This Anthurium likes consistently warm temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius. Avoid positioning it in a room where the temperature may drop to below 15 degrees and avoid draughts, both cold (aircon/windows/doors) and warm (heating). Remember, Anthurium queremalense is a tropical jungle plant so for your plant to thrive you’ll need to mimic these conditions as closely as possible. If you can’t position your plant in a steamier, more humid environment like the kitchen or bathroom, then maximise humidity by grouping this plant alongside others, so that they can create their own little microclimate. Alternatively apply a topdress of LECA balls to the soil.
While they love humidity, be careful when misting them or applying any plant tonics or pesticides as any droplets that sit on the leaves for too long may leave marks. Feed your plant with a nitrogen rich plant food regularly over the growing season from April through to October in order to encourage lush, foliar growth. As it grows, you may want to consider offering it some support by staking it with a bamboo cane or training it up a moss pole.
When it comes time for repotting, after about two years, use a choice jungle potting mix, that balances out being free draining but holding onto moisture and is slightly more acidic in Ph.
Did you know?
Anthurium queremalense is a hemiepiphyte, which means it spends half of it’s lifecycle growing as an epiphyte in the tree canopy, before sending down roots to earth.
