This type of growing is known as hydroponic planting, which means growing without soil. There are two big advantages to this: it looks beautiful, and it’s easy to remember when to water your plant.
You may have previously heard us saying that roots don’t like to be too wet, but this only applies when plants are growing in soil. This is because bacteria breed very quickly in soil, and this can cause the roots to rot. For hydroponic planting, you don’t need to worry about bacteria. Your plant’s roots will be very happy hanging out in water. Just remember to keep the water fresh by changing it every few weeks.
As plants get their nutrients from soil, hydroponic plants need to be fed with plant food to help them grow. During spring and summer, add a little plant food to the water once a month. Leave it between 24-48 hours before changing the water again.
