His big leaves like a lot of light, but not direct sun. Away from a window in a bright room is ideal.
He likes his soil lightly moist. Water him when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Never let him dry out completely.
Mist him regularly to keep his leaves in top condition. Dry air can lead to dry tips.

Alocasia zebrina black stem is part of a family of plants commonly known as ‘elephant ear’, because their leaves are the exact shape, if not size, of the ears of an elephant. There are at least 97 different varieties of different sizes and colours. This plant is just like our Zabrina, except its steps are a velvety black, rather than striped. The dark green leaves against black stems make for a very elegant houseplant.
Alocasias are largely found in Brazil, where they grow at the base of much larger trees. The large leaves help them make the most of all the available sunlight and help them capture as much rain as possible.
To keep this plant happy indoors try to echo those conditions, with lots of indirect light and regular water (they don’t like to dry out). It will also love you if you give it a feed with liquid fertiliser once per month in spring and summer.
Did you know?
The largest alocasia has leaves that are almost 4 metres long. You’d need a big living room for that.
