Our top 5 garden plants
Ivy
English ivy is a familiar sight, usually seen trailing and climbing happily over anything that stays still. She’ll continue to grow, climb, and trail quite happily in most light conditions throughout the year, just remember to keep her soil nice and moist.
Mae
Mae is our easygoing, garden-friendly tropical palm. She’s used to coping in dry conditions, so she only needs a drink once the top two inches of soil dry out. She’ll also deal well with living somewhere windy - a stiff breeze won’t bother her at all.
Vivi
Vivi the lemon tree is one of our most popular garden plants. Citrus trees aren’t usually associated with the British climate, but lemon trees will fare just fine in a sunny garden. Give Vivi some liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer to encourage her to bear more fruit.
Boo
Bamboo is much more than just panda food - their thick canes can provide your garden with some privacy, as well as a natural shelter from the wind. Boo grows thick and fast, so if they’re getting a little too big for your space, just chop them back a little.
Tam
Tam, our tree fern, will bring a welcome prehistoric vibe to your garden. He’ll thrive in a spot that gives him a mix of shade and gentle sun. Unlike Boo, he’s not a fan of strong winds, so keep him somewhere that he'll be well protected from them.

Low-maintenance garden plants
There’s no shame in forgetting to water your garden plants, these things happen! Plants that need a little more TLC won’t cope too well being thirsty, so thankfully there are plenty of tough garden plants that will forgive your forgetfulness.
Our hardy, almost unkillable garden plants can survive quite happily through more challenging conditions, like high winds or low light. This makes them a good choice for those new to gardening.
Carmen the pampas grass is a great way to introduce some height and texture to your space. She’ll cope in most light conditions, and won’t mind if you forget to water her now and then. Mollie the alchemilla mollis will be happy in any position outdoors, from full sun to full shade.
Small garden plants
Not all gardens are measured in acres - they come in all shapes and sizes, from rolling lawns to compact courtyards. Opting for small garden plants is a great way to make the most of a tight space.
Small garden plants are the perfect way to spruce up a compact outside space in need of a little greenery. Given that gardens may be exposed to harsh conditions, like high winds and shade, caring for small garden plants may seem tricky. Thankfully we have some that are super easy to look after.
Some of our favourite small garden plants are Vanda the English lavender, Amrita the angel hair, and Fenton the mahogany fern.
Tall garden plants
Tall garden plants are a great way to introduce a touch of the dramatic to your space. Much in the same way as tall buildings, tall garden plants help you achieve lofty ambitions, while taking up relatively little floor space.
Tall plants might seem like a lot of work, but we have some that are super easy to care for and great for beginners. With relatively little work, they’ll elevate your garden with statement greenery and fabulous foliage.
Some of our favourite tall garden plants are Laura the bay tree, Phoebe the tropical canary island date palm, and Bree the black bamboo.
Evergreen garden plants
Evergreen garden plants will keep their leaves all year round. From flowering plants to gorgeous grasses, there’s a way to keep your garden green and serene.
Evergreen garden plants come in a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes. From fabulous fruit trees like Leon the lime tree, to trailing beauties like Ivy the English ivy, there’s an evergreen plant to suit any garden.
Garden plants for shade
While your garden plants will need at least a little sunlight, you don’t have to worry if you have a shady space. There are plenty of garden plants that are happy in low light conditions.
No plant will cope well with total shade, but if the sun only partially reaches your garden, these plants will be just fine. Some of our best garden plants for low light include Fats the fatsia japonica and Jaxson the brunnera macrophylla.
Fats will be fine in a shady spot, but equally happy somewhere that gets sun most of the day. Jaxson does brilliantly in low light, so he’s ideal for shady spaces or for planting under trees.
